Raven presents the first comprehensive, multi-label CD collection covering the career of the great ROY HAMILTON. Dark End of the Street 1963-1969 is a long overdue survey featuring some of the singer"s most outstanding performances. With superb quality audio, color booklet and informative liner notes. Roy Hamilton was known as "The Golden Voice" and forged a hugely successful career with Epic Records in the 1950s and early 1960s as an R&B and ballad singer. Allmusic Guide describes him as "an extremely influential vocalist" and indeed he inspired a generation of pop and soul singers, most notably Elvis Presley and The Righteous Brothers, both of whom covered several of his hits. This is the only CD collection that properly covers Hamilton"s post-Epic recordings, featuring the best of his output during the 1960s for the MGM, RCA Victor and AGP labels as well as a rare one-off for Capitol. Many of the songs feature the production prowess of legends Chips Moman & Tommy Cogbill, Bert Keyes and Leiber & Stoller. Among the 28 tracks are such tremendous Northern Soul floor fillers as "The Panic Is On", "Crackin" Up Over You" and "You Shook Me Up" as well as definitive renditions of deep soul classics "Dark End Of The Street" and "It"s Only Make Believe". His versions of "Midnight Town - Daybreak City", "Crying in the Chapel", "The Impossible Dream", "God Bless the Child" and "Let the Music Play" simply confirm the greatness of his dramatic, searing voice.
