Don Omar was born and bred in Santurce, a barrio in the Villa Palmeras area of San Juan, Puerto Rico. At an early age he began performing at popular nightclubs. He eventually became a back up singer for the popular duo Hector & Tito. However his ambition didn"t allow him to stay in the background for long. His debut album The Last Don was certified platinum. To date, he has sold over 8 million albums. He has received numerous awards from the music industry including Latin Pop Album of the Year, New Artist & Latin Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year (Billboard Latin Music Awards), and was nominated for Urban Music Album of the Year (Latin Grammy Awards).
