Across much of the "80s, Yellowman was as popular as sliced bread and cheese. The first of the superstar DJs, King Yellow, as he was swiftly crowned, reigned supreme not just in the Jamaican dancehalls, but in the British and American reggae clubs as well. Skipping over his breakout hits for the Hookim brothers, 20 Super Hits may neglect the appetizer, but the rest of the meal is a regal feast. There"s a slew of smashes overseen by Junjo Lawes, for whom Yellow cut a deluge of singles, many bundled up back in the day on equally popular albums, including "Lost Mi Love," "I"m Getting Married," "Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt," and so many more. That latter number remains in the DJ"s live set and would also entitle a 1984 album. But Yellow never worked exclusively for Lawes. His 1985 Galong Galong Galong album, for instance, was produced by George Phang. The hit "Walking Jewelry Store" wasn"t included but is helpfully rounded up here along with several other singles that didn"t make it onto contemporary albums or are found only on deleted sets, among them his Taxi smash "Soldier Take Over." Some of the titles have been slightly altered, and there"s some notable omissions, but so prolific was the DJ during this period that it"s hardly surprising. All in all, a fairly well rounded set, and the perfect intro to one of Jamaica"s most distinguished toasters. ~ Jo-Ann Greene, All Music Guide
