The Grasshopper Model is one of a series of models that make up a coordinated program in Biology/Life Science. The model demonstrates a generalized, short-horned grasshopper where part of the exoskeleton on one side of the animal has been cut away to disclose the internal organs. The wings are positioned so that both may be seen. A supplementary diagram shows the mouth parts as they are seen in normal position, and then displayed in an "exploded" view. This model represents a member of the largest Phylum in the animal kingdom, the Arthropoda. Detailed study of certain body structures as well as the joined feet and legs will reveal the common characteristics that grasshoppers share with all other members of the huge class Insecta.The model measures 24" x 18" and is accompanied by a comprehensive activity notebook with a glossary, key, blackline master, and 2 color transparencies.
