Padre Giovanni Battista Martini (1706-1784) was not only an outstanding historian who wrote a three-volume history of music he also taught important composers like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf and Johann Christian Bach and was himself a master composer; unfortunately, his works have not yet enjoyed the attention they deserve. This production features recordings of Martini`s religious choir music as well as compositions written for organ and harpsichord. As such the CD offers a multi-layered insight into the compositional creativity of one of music history`s important personalities. Ars Musici.
