This is a diary of Aleksei Kondratovich (1920-1984), a comrade-in-arms of A.T. Tvardovski, the chief editor of the magazine Novyi Mir, and his first assistant. The diary is written hot on the heels of the events in the period when the party curators tried to shut down Tvardovskii and his team and finally made him depart from his office and main business of his life.
