The Penn State Nittany Lions have one of the most storied college football programs in the country. Under head coach Joe Paterno"s leadership, the team experienced great success in the 1980"s, including two national championships and unforgettable bowl game victories. In 1982, the Nittany Lions, with a 10-1 record, earned a No. 2 ranking by the end of the regular season and faced off with the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl for the national championship. A 27-23 victory earned Paterno his first consensus national championship. The success continued when the Nittany Lions again played for the national title in 1986 against the powerful Miami Hurricanes in an epic Fiesta Bowl. The Hurricanes were led by star Quarterback Vinny Testaverde, who had just won the Heisman Trophy. However, Penn State battled to pull off a 14-10 upset, earning Paterno a second consensus national title. The 1980"s proved to be a highly celebrated decade for Penn State, helping to shape the legendary history of the Nittany Lions. This DVD compilation features: 1982 Season Highlights: A Year of Destiny & We are Number One, 1986 Season Highlights: Destination National Championship & Duel in the Desert, Photo Gallery.
