The AC-130 Spectre is a gunship modification to the C-130 Hercules, a conversion similar to the AC-47 Spooky (from the C-47 Skytrain). The AC-130A (first version) was first introduced in 1968, during the Vietnam conflict, to replace the AC-47. The aircraft has undergone a series of modifications since, and is still in use today. The version modeled here, the AC-130U, is the most modernized version currently in use. It is equipped with a variety of technological upgrades that give the aircraft a much-improved combat performance compared to earlier variants. High demand for the aircraft has led to plans to convert a number of other C-130 variants to AC-130Us, and new, further, modifications are currently being tested.
