For those not totally familiar with this weapon, it was a 20mm semiautomatic anti-tank rifle used by both Germany and Switzerland during WWII. The Swiss company Solothurn was owned by Rheinmetall, who used it to manufacture weapons for Germany as the military reequipped despite arms limitations in place at the time. The disadvantage of the S-18/100 was its size (nearly 2m long) and weight (42kg), as well as the large 20x105mm ammunition rounds that produced powerful recoil forces. The rifle was fed from either a five-round or ten-round magazine. Muzzle velocity was 750m/s, and it could penetrate 30mm of armor at a range of 200m. In the German military it was known as the 2cm Tankbüchse S-18. However, it was rare in German service and wasnâ?TMt often photographed, as preferred anti-tank rifles were typically smaller-caliber weapons. Dragon has created a fine 1/6 scale plastic kit of this unusual S-18/100 weapon. In this scale the rifle is impressive in size. However, makers will find it fits together easily thanks to a minimal number of parts owing to the clever use of slide molds. Swift and accurate assembly is thus assured. This was a powerful anti-tank weapon, and even though it wasnâ?TMt widely used by German forces during the blitzkrieg campaigns, itâ?TMs a welcome addition to Dragonâ?TMs 1/6 collection of weapon kits.
