Since the end of the eighteenth century, Switzerland and its mountains have attracted many tourists in search of places where nature was still unspoiled. Some of them were scientists, philosophers, men of letters or artists. One of the most famous ones was J.M.W. Turner, the great English painter who first came to Switzerland in 1802, at the age of 27, and returned several times between 1836 and 1844. Turner produced hundreds of sketches and watercolors. Though small in size –they were painted on notebooks –these may be the greatest works an artist ever dedicated to Switzerland.This informative and entertaining program takes the viewer to the very spots that inspired Turner.
