An enchanting story of the relationship between a teenage Norwegian girl named Katrine and a newborn harbor seal. It was filmed by the renowned Norwegian nature and wildlife filmmaker, Trygve Berge, along the visually spectacular western coast of Norway. Each year, a few seal pups are left orphaned off the rocky Norwegian coastline. When Katrine finds a two-day-old baby seal alone on a tiny island of rock, she rescues it from certain death, brings it to her home and names him Selik. What follows is a bittersweet tale of adventure, laughter, and tears. The bond that develops between Katrine and Selik during the seal"s recuperation is all the more poignant because Katrine knows she must return Selik to the open sea once he is healthy and strong and has learned to survive in the wild. SELIK & KATRINE takes place the following summer, when Katrine"s interest in seals and wildlife leads to an offer of a summer job at the local seaquarium. While collecting marine samples with Simon, and Mats, young boys from the neighborhood, she sees Selik close inshore - and realizes that he is living among the inner skerries close to her island home. Soon after, she hears that Selik has been raiding the fishermen"s lobster pots and she fears he could be shot by hunters. It is the hunting season and Selik, now a fully grown adult seal, should be living far out to sea... Curious as ever, Selik revisits the house and garden at Teistklubben, as if recalling the first three months of his life there. For a while, Katrine and the two boys are amused by the seal"s antics - but Katrine is aware that the situation cannot continue. She resolves to return Selik to the outer skerries eight miles offshore. To do that, she must first study the big seal colonies there - and determine whether the other seals will accept Selik.
