Ronin Warriors was the name given to Legendary Armour Samurai Troopers (1989) when it aired in the U.S. in syndication in 1995. Arago, the Emperor of Doom, attacks Tokyo; five supernatural warriors fight to prevent him from gaining control of the Earth: Ryo, Cy, Halo, Rowen, and Kento. Their "mystical armor"--mecha versions of samurai battle armor--transforms the teenagers into a quintet capable of challenging Arago"s demon-lieutenants. The walleyed character designs, straightforward storytelling, repeated gymnastics moves, clumsy animal drawings, and wooden dialogue make Ronin Warriors feel more like a show from the early "70s than a series that debuted in the same year as Patlabor and Ranma 1/2. The Warriors heroically defy the maniacally laughing demons, but their adventures play like a cross between Tekkaman and Sailor Moon.
