A sound engineer travels to Portugal, where a director friend is supposed to be working on a documentary, but upon his arrival discovers the director missing and a silent, unfinished film on the editing table. The engineer wanders the streets of Lisbon, recording the sounds of the city for the movie and searching for his friend, in this lyrical and allegorical drama from Wim Wenders.
