When a jazz ensemble begins its tour of the South, their lead songbird (Priscilla Lane) gets sidelined by a surprise pregnancy. Worse, the band"s leader (Richard Whorf) accepts a gangster"s offer of a New Jersey gig, only to fall in love with the mobster"s former girlfriend (Betty Field).
