The Spitfire was an aircraft design that no one seemed to want. It was turned down by the British government, and even by the Royal Air Force. Only the stubbornness of its brilliant designer, R. J. Mitchell, kept the Spitfire design alive, and eventually saw it into service with the fighter squadrons… just in the nick of time to win the Battle of Britain.
