For his sixth album Gilbert worked with Elton John s erstwhile producer, Gus Dudgeon, to great effect. In the background, there loomed a complex, stressful and potentially catastrophic court case with his manager / producer Gordon Mills, but despite the professional mayhem, Gilbert had the one constant upon which to rely - his music. "I was intact musically, that was my survival," he says. "I had the ability and the talent. They couldn t touch those." How right he was. The single "What s In A Kiss" returned him to the UK Top 20 singles chart and when the album was released in the Autumn of 1980, it deservedly received a favorable critical response.
