This 4 CD set celebrates the 100th anniversary of the premiere of Stravinskys ballet The Rite of Spring in Paris on 29 May 1913. It is widely regarded as the most significant event in 20th century classical music and the shock of this groundbreaking score can still be felt today. Included in this outstanding collection are six of the greatest recordings ever made of the work from the catalogues of Decca, Deutsche Grammophon and Philips. In addition to digital recordings by Antal Dorati, Riccardo Chailly, Pierre Boulez, Valery Gergiev and Esa-Pekka Salonen, is a recording from 1956 by Pierre Monteux, the conductor of the premiere on that fateful night in 1913.
