How the Indoor Allergen Test Kit Works In order to perform the test, you"ll need a vacuum cleaner with hose attachment for collecting dust sampling. Make sure the hose attachment is connected to the vacuum cleaner properly before you begin sampling collection. When you"re ready, simply insert the white filter tube securely into the dust collector through the opening at the angled end. You"ll need to vacuum 4 separate areas for 30 seconds each, where each area is about ¼ square meter. The total sampling time is 2 minutes and the total area sampled is about 1 square meter. A minimum of 100 mg dust is required for allergen analysis. As soon as you have completed dust sampling on all indoor allergens, securely store each filter tube in Ziploc bag and label it with sample name or code. Complete the data sheet included in the kit and mail it together with the individually labeled filters to the laboratory for analysis. A prepaid label is available for $75 for a 5-10 days turnaround time. Samples analyzed by the lab will be retained for 60 days after analysis date. Storage beyond this period is available for a fee with written request prior to the initial 30 day period. Samples containing hazardous/toxic substances which require special handling will be returned to the client immediately. Limitations of the Indoor Allergen Test Kit The allergen detection test only provides information on allergen risk levels based on the sample sent. It cannot make diagnostic reference on the allergic reactions experienced by your or your family members. On the other hand, early detection of allergens in your home helps you act on reducing your family"s exposure to them and reduce the chances of developing asthma or skin allergies.
