Environments and Counter-Environments: Experimental Media in Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, MoMA, 1972
Price 17.77 - 39.95 USD
The book follows through and extends research developed for the exhibition and conference Environments Counter Environments: Experimental Media in Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, MoMA, 1972 held at the Arthur Ross Architecture Gallery at Columbia University in 2009. It exhibited for the first time a famously missing collection of films and media projects produced for the landmark MoMA exhibition Italy: The New Domestic Landscape (1972). Drawings, collages, and photographs con- nected to the exhibition"s commissioned environments will be included, along with selected curatorial documents. This archival material will be the basis for a series of contributor essays, positioning their work within the broader context of architectural culture and its relationship to experimental film, video, and media during the 1960s and early 1970s. The book aims to make an important contribution to the study of this period of Italian architecture and design, its relation to American architectural debates, and to a growing interest in the influence of curators and exhibitions upon architectural discourse. Architecture s complex engagement with new technologies, media, and environment are again urgent questions for contemporary architectural practice and theory.
