This book shows for the first time how the ancient Russian town turned into the "socialist city of Novgorod". The author collected the documents and videomaterials demonstrating the facts when the socialist constructions replaced the monuments of the ancient epoch, and damaged the historical aura of the city. Trifonova states that the scale of socialist intervention in the architectural environment of the old city is comparable in its consequences with the devastation caused by WWII.
