The Russian Academy of Sciences (before 1917, The Imperial Academy of Sciences) founded by Peter the Great in 1724, was for all these years the main academic institution of Russia. This is a chronicle of Academy activities day by day from 1724 to 1934. It shows its multifaceted activity, its major events, its organizing and supporting role in research and development. Formed originally with foreigners, the Academy raised generations of Russian scientists who later became the glory of Russian and world science. The Chronicle is based on minutes of Academy meetings.
