This is a biography of the maid of honor of the empress Mariia Fedorovna, princess Varvara Il"inichna Turkestanova (d. 1819). This book is based on Turkestanova"s diary and the correspondence between the princess and her Moscow friend, Swiss F. Kristin. These personal documents translated for the first time from French into Russian present a wide panorama of the life and interests of the imperial court and the high society of both Russian capitals.
