Rox Antasha, the Duchess of the Land, finds that there are times when a ?purse full of golden ducats actually doesn’t help her. Kidnapped by ?Armandillo Mesmer, the brother of the Enchanter, and taken far from her ?ducal manor, she realises that she has been condemned to death; to face ?torture and torment within the caves of the terrible Desolate Crag. The ?ways out are blocked by Armandillo’s men; she has no choice but to ?investigate the crag looking for some secret way out. The crag is infested ?with terrible creatures and lethal traps; but maybe the worst trap of them ?all is to be found in the treasure chamber of the long dead Earl Mirkfog; ?who bears little love for Rox’s illustrious ancestor. There is such a thing as ?too much wealth; and she certainly discovers this for herself.?
