The purpose of this book has been to reveal the different effects of Norwegian labor market policies aimed at unemployed people. The results are presented in terms of four sections. The first two chapters use a reform of unemployment benefit regulations to compare a task-oriented regime, with an insurance-oriented regime in which the job seeker is left a large part of the responsibility for their own search behavior. The studies show that activity-oriented regime results in quicker return to work, while the insured oriented regime gives the job seeker time and space to find better jobs. The last two chapters focus on the different effects of rehabilitation programs. The results show that participation in rehabilitation programs contribute to increased job probability. There are however large differences between different programs and different participants. In summary, the effects are higher, the more the programs resemble ordinary jobs.
