Yajoka:Council of Sabat-bet Clan chiefs and Notables

Ya Sabat-Bet Gurage Qyica (Yajoka law) was formulated by members of Sabat-Bet (literally ‘Seven Houses’) which includes Chaha (including Gummar), Ezha, Mihur (including Aklil), Geta, Ennemor (including Ennar), Maqorqor and Endagan. These people usually send their representatives to Sabat-bet Gurage Shengo (council) called Yajoka. It is named after a specific locality in Chaha, i.e. Yajoka. It is derived from Guragigna term “Aej Wakka” which literally reflects an old tree in the locality where one part of its branch supported the stem. In doing so, all the rules and regulations are enacted at Yajoka square.
