More renowned only as August Renoir, he was a significant French impressionist painter. Being a tailor"s son, he came to art via porcelain painting. In 1879 he married Aline Victorine Charigot and focused his painting on the topics of ordinary human life. He especially his children and their carer Gabrielle Renard. In 1881 he travelled to Algiers, Madrid and Italy to examine the details of other masterpieces of that time. During the following ten years he developed his painting to his image although he suffered from strong rheumatism, it partly impossible to move his right hand. As his disease progressed, being confined to a wheelchair, he was no longer able to paint using a classic canvas, h therefore devoted himself to sculpture, but due to his disease he never realised his designs personally. The only sculpture with his own hands was a bust of his youngest son (1908). In 1919, towards the end of his life, he visited the Louvre for the last time to see his works...
