While internationally acclaimed artist Erik Parker has deep roots in alternative comics, illustration, and graffiti, his body of work successfully bridges that underground culture and the Pop Surrealism movement. The first retrospective look at the artist"s irreverent and boisterous artwork, ERIK PARKER: COLORFUL RESISTANCE includes a look at four recurring themes (social and political mappings, pictographs, ebullient heads, and animated still lifes), all of which present busy, intense compositions originated from word clusters, viscera-like forms, and animated figurines that represent the critical mass of social movements. Parker"s work is an attempt to provide an overall take on the most pressing issues of the day through aggressively youthful and rebellious fast-paced mark-making, compositional intensity, strident colors, and an anti-authoritarian approach to established ideologies.
