This is the story of Derby County’s triumphant 1971-72 season at the end of which they were crowned champions of England for the first time. It was the Rams’ seventy-second in League football, forty-five of which had been played in the top flight and Brian Clough’s tiny squad of first team players had to finish above the likes of Don Revie’s formidable Leeds United and Bill Shankly’s outstanding Liverpool side to win the title.
