Now it will be seen, that if the handle be pressed against the lever, the catch rod will be elevated and with it the sector, thus causing a movement of the eye of the sector lever, and consequently a movement of the locking bar. In this position of the sector the arc of the slot is true to the pivot on which the lever moves: consequently as the lever is drawn over no movement of the sector takes place. When the movement of the lever is completed, the depression of the catch rod and stud depresses the sector, and the sector lever draws the locking bar still farther out.
