Questions For The Duke of Cambridge

At some point in the future the Duke of Cambridge will become, by an accident of birth, Britain"s Head of State, and the constitutional anomaly at the centre of our democracy - the unelectable Head of State - will continue. In this series of letters to Prince William, Chris Pettitt - a republican democrat - invited the Prince to justify the continuation of the monarchy into the 21st century, and asked some challenging questions as to the sort of Britain the Prince would like to inherit. The letters raise many of the controversial issues in contemporary Britain; children"s education, the widening gaps between rich and poor and North and South, and the ownership and methods of the British Media; as well as recent high-profile events - the Queen"s Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics, the death of Mrs Thatcher.
