At the time, the show was known as Big Brother 2000 like the international editions of the series, in which the year is used to classify the season instead of a number. It was the first series to be broadcast in English, premiering only days before the British version, however, in the British version, the housemates had gone into the house five days prior to the start of the U.S. version.
