Amazon.co.uk Review Coolfin (the band) is Donal Lunny's latest project and Coolfin (the album) is their first venture into the recording world. Even though his role in the increasing global popularity of Irish traditional music may have been somewhat overplayed (Lunny is nothing if not an excellent self-promoter) there can be no doubt that he has been at the heart of it all since the 70s. As might be expected from the man, this is a consummate exercise on state of the art folk music. The production--courtesy of Real World studios--is pristine, the mix of Irish and world influences spot on and the playing perfect, not least Lunny's own driving bouzouki. A small but perfectly formed series of guests pop up throughout--the relentlessly wonderful Sharon Shannon and Eddi Reader (continuing her love affair with trad music) appearing alongside Gaelic singers Maighread & Triona Ni Dhomhnaill. This is not the most atmospheric recording in the world, but another worthy entry in the Lunny workbook. --Phil Udell
