Venus is an everlasting subject in art. But why Sovietica? What is the origin of totalitarian eroticism — possessing "all sexual characters" and asexual, argumentative of sound social hedonism and unable to arouse personal desire and symbolizing triumph of healthy, well trained and organized flesh and ethereal? How has the type of Venus Sovietica consolidated in Soviet culture? The exhibition in the Russian Museum and the publication devoted to it try to answer all these questions.
