"Getting the Picture" offers us a retrospective of 50 years of photography by Jon Naar (London, 1920). Half a century has been viewed through the lens of the camera as a personal record by a man invariably calling himself "a political person". This is Naar"s own metaphor for the position of his free and commissioned photography within both the visual arts and the commercial scenes. The phrase "political person" also refers to the contents and subjects that appealed to Naar, such as graffiti, the life of artists in New York in the sixties and seventies, post-war Germany and networks of extremely successful firms such as Knoll International and IBM. A selection from Jon Naar"s abundant work has now been chosen for "Getting the Picture". The photographer provides each picture with information about the subject and what led him to take the photo.
