In this, the second volume of the German Uniforms of the 20th Century series, a subject is treated that does not enjoy very great "popularity", because it brings certain problems with it. A book about infantry uniforms from 1919 to the present cannot be complete. The largest body of troops in the various German armies, making up more than 60% of them, was and is simply structured only at first glance, in terms of its inner organization. The foot soldiers, as a group, still had their leading position until the end of World War I, and even in World War II they were partially decisive. With the appearance of motorized, wheeled and treaded vehicles as means of transport and fighting in the German army, the role of the infantry also changed slowly from that of troops purely on foot to motorized and, nowadays, armored units.
