Pablo Palazuelo (1915) is one of the key figures of Spanish Art in the second half of the 20th century whose work, though still relatively unknown outside of Spain. Though he began as a student of architecture, in 1939 Palazuelo decided to dedicate his energy to painting. His work evolved into abstraction and the non-figurative, and in 1946 he submitted completely to geometric abstraction. Though it is true that he is aware of philosophies related with esotericism, the Kabala and non-Western cognitive and philosophical processes; mathematics, physics and scientific method are fundamental in his work. The development of abstraction and the use of geometry in his work are intrinsic to a rational and performative process based on the discovery rather than invention of new forms.
