Romanesque

Many twelfth-century descriptions convey a great enthusiasm for colors, illumination, splendor, and rich contrasts of effect in art. In the meantime, most of these treasures - gold and silver, often gem-encrusted vessels, radiant windows, and sumptuously colored tapestries -have disappeared from view. This explains the widely accepted modern picture of Romanesque art as an art of asceticism, naked stone, and the spiritual voids of interiors, supposedly reflecting a sole concentration on the life after death. This picture by no means does justice to the true splendor of Romanesque art. Издание на английском языке. Формат: 18,5 см х 23 см.
