He is the author of Stargorod, a cycle of 30 narratives about provincial Russia, and three other novels: Seagull, Vladimir Chigrintsev (a neo-gothic novel shortlisted for the 1996 Booker Russian Novel Prize, see excerpt in Glas 1 6), and Harlequin (about 18th-century poet Trediakovsky).
