It seems every age produces a culture that feels self-sufficient and all knowing when technology and new inventions surpass even recent accomplishments. With the attitude that man can easily advance beyond natural boundaries, the debt owed to the innovations and hard work of each decade for a thousand years is sometimes forgotten. We"re all dependent on each other; our separate groups of interacting efforts propel us through each challenge to survive and thrive. As we float confidently into the future on the wings of all our accomplishments, we fail to consider the difficulties our civilization would face without the more than considerable support necessary for it to stand or move forward. If societies lose their principal means of this support for an extended period they find it nearly impossible to maintain their conditions without the normal infusion of supplies or trade-offs. Once the backward movement has occurred it can be very difficult to reverse the trend and our seats of learning never address this phenomenon though there"s ample evidence of such events or misfortunes having occurred.
