Basing his ethnographic history upon extensive genealogical research in the Molopole area of Botswana, Okihiro (international and public affairs, Columbia U.) explores the demographic, economic, and social formations of the Bakwena people in the 19th century. Gender, class, inter-ethnic relations, and types of economies are all important ingredients of the story he constructs.
