"Pastels" by vocalist Grazyna Auguscik and pianist Bogdan Holownia is a testimonial to contemporary invention in every regard. "Caravan" and "Willow Weep fom Me" just kill me. Both cuts are rife with harmonic, melodic, and metric surprises. Bogdan is a brilliant pianist. His singing right hand 4th and 5th fingers could aplly handle the demands of Chopin Mazurka. Add to the equation a harmonic sense reminiscent of Bill Evans and the result is magically masterful. Grazyna"s pitch, unique phrasing and old-world pronunciation (e.g. CARAVAN: pronounced Car-ah-vaughn) render her performance a delight to behold...."
