A Royal Academy of Arts Publication Sir Terry Frost RA is one of Britain"s most distinguished and exuberant abstract painters. This book accompanies a retrospective exhibition of his work mounted at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in honor of his 85th birthday. Throughout his long career, Frost has remained committed to exploring the rhythms of nature through abstraction. He began to sketch and paint during World War II, when he was a prisoner in Stalag 383, and by 1960 had had one-man shows in London and New York. Since that time, his work has been avidly collected and he has exhibited regularly, often at the Royal Academy"s famous Summer Exhibitions, and at the Tate Gallery, the Whitechapel Art Gallery, and the Hayward Gallery, among other venues. Frost was elected an Academician by the Royal Academy in 1992, and knighted in 1998. An essay by art historian Mel Gooding and an interview with Sir Terry by Isabel Carlisle, curator of the exhibition, set Frost"s popular, colorful work in context. Approximately 50 illustrations in full color, 95/8 x 111/2"
