This disc features the passionate Sonata for Violin and Piano in E flat by Ivor Gurney, a composer celebrated primarily for his song settings, yet who is revealed here as an incredibly skilled author of chamber music. This emotionally intense and compelling piece is complemented by the much-loved Violin Sonata by Edward Elgar, and Lionel Sainsburys virtuosic Soliloquy for solo violin. Recorded in the outstanding acoustic of Wyastone Concert Hall in Monmouthshire, the CD features two critically acclaimed artists: violinist Rupert Marshall-Luck and pianist Matthew Rickard.
