Bandleader Bill Savill led one of the finest and most popular "society" bands of the 1950s, and between 1946 and 1967 he and his orchestra appeared in over three-hundred editions of the radio show "Music While You Work". What is meant by "society" band is that his band was regularly booked to play at high-class social events and hotels such as The Dorchester and Claridge"s - well-paid work that was much sought by musicians of that era. Bill Savill always insisted on using the best musicians and arrangers, and at one time or another his line-ups have included the likes of Neil Richardson, Eric Rogers and Reginald Leopold. Due to Bill"s success, in the late 1950s he was contracted by Decca to record a series of albums featuring his band playing tasteful arrangements of well-known tunes, specially tailored for dancing. Two such albums, "We Could Have Danced All Night" and "In a Dancing Mood" (both from 1959), are compiled here and showcase the elegant, swinging Bill Savill sound through tunes such as So in Love, The Folk who Live on the Hill, Easy to Love, I"ve Got you Under My Skin, Shall we Dance and How High the Moon among a plethora of other titles.
