Super Mind Pack
The king of lateral thinking has an anti-elitist view of intelligence--what counts is not some mythical natural endowment, but the attention that one gives to training oneself in the skills needed for success. Not surprisingly in so more successful a survivor of the hippy era, de Bono"s version of success stresses maximising happy outcomes for everyone, and the skills needed to get there are as much to do with empathy and co-operation as with naked greed and market forces. This pack contains a short book of exhortation and much sound sense, along with the counters, dice and other stuff needed for a number of games, described in the book, which promote the habit of these values and techniques. Where a tough edge comes in is in his stress on the impossibility of having everything at once--there have to be priorities and trade-offs, and this is the reason why negotiation and compromise are necessary, learnable skills. There is also here a radical and attractive scepticism--we have to learn as well the difference between a mistake and a best guess that happened not to pay off. This pack is fun, but it is also intelligent, sensible and useful fun. --Roz Kaveney
