Celebrity florist Stephen Woodhams has the talent to turn a handful of grass into a style statement. Whether you"ve walked into his flagship shop, Woodhams at One Aldwych in London, or hankered for some floral finesse in your home, you might be tempted to pick a tip or two (or 70 in this case) from the man himself. Being a softback book makes the idea of designer flower arrangements accessible and it does also lower the aspirational rating, particularly as the visuals are simple, catalogue style. The avid gardener with a passion for anything that grows will lap up the mini encyclopedia of flowers, foliage and plants, presented in colour categories (yellows, blues, reds, whites), and will revel in being reminded of the choice available. It may be subtitled Innovative Flower Arrangements, but the "innovative" comes from choice of flowers rather than the arrangements--mostly. Unless you"re a creme de la creme gardener with perfect roses, you won"t need to know how to hand tie a bunch of them. And if you can afford well over 100 roses, you won"t be labouring over filling a wooden tray with them. The red pepper stems in empty beer cans seems easy enough, but unless you"re in a trendy loft apartment, friends and family will be asking why you can"t afford a decent vase. --Lorna V
