A white Christmas is the only gift a young boy with a serious illness is hoping for. In a desperate attempt to fulfill what may be his last wish, the boy"s adoptive parents search out a northern Michigan location famous for deep snow. They sell their charming ranch home in the suburbs and move the young boy and their twin daughters up north. Ironically, the family ends up in a town that hasn"t seen snow for five years. A stalled warm front makes prospects even dimmer. To add to their discomfort, the first person they meet is a surly sheriff whose sole purpose seems to be to make life miserable for newcomers. Undismayed, they proceed with moving into an old farmhouse. In the meantime the children claim to have seen a ghost in the attic. And then a scary old Indian shows up and persist in hanging around the house. The family finally meets some very friendly locals who make them feel welcome. But when the secret of the boy"s illness comes out, the townspeople react out of prejudice and fear. The surprise conclusion proves that the spirit of Christmas is alive and well even in the perilous nineties. This is a story that can be enjoyed in solitude by adults or read out loud to children. All ages will delight in it.
